Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
According to news sources:
Islamabad International Airport will be made operational on April 20 without inauguration ceremony.
The first scheduled passenger flight to land at Islamabad International Airport on April 20 will be PIA flight PK-300 from Karachi. The Boeing 777 flight PK-300 is scheduled to land at 8:55 AM.
Maybe PIA Boeing 777 registration AP-BMH in airline's new livery to perform this flight?
The airport's formal inauguration by the Prime Minister in a ceremony will be performed on May 1.

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
I am curious to find out why are airlines not notifying passengers about these air changes I went to book a flight on the PIA website but they have no notification of this change surely several passengers will be inconvenienced if they are not made aware and their relatives might end up at the wrong airport. People may also end up going to the wrong airport which will surely create chaos?

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is going to visit United Kingdom to represent Pakistan at Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018 (CHOGM 2018) 19–20 April 2018.
Apparently, that's one of the reasons for cancellation of formal inauguration ceremony of Islamabad International Airport on April 20.

Re: New Islamabad International Airport Project
This topic started in 2005 and must be the longest running thread on this forum.
12 years it took to plan and build this airport.
maybe topic should be modified to mention the dates and this probably has the complete picture history of the project.

New airport`s baggage area flooded after pipe bursts
Mohammad Asghar
4/17/2018
RAWALPINDI: A water pipe burst on Monday flooded a portion of the domestic baggage claims and check-in area at the new Islamabad International Airport.
Videos of the pipe burst show water flooding the baggage area.
Shortly afterwards, concerned staffwere called and the damaged pipe was repaired.
However, a senior Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told Dawn this was a minor leak caused due to mishandling by labour and that there was no damage to the fittings and machines.
CAA Director Media Management Syed Aamir Mehboob also said this was not a big leak and was caused during testing which is not unusual. He said all facilities, equipment and machines are being tested before the airport is made operational.
However, in a late night statement issued by CAA, the authority`s spokesman clarified that during a test trial, the contractors detected a leak in the pipe which was repaired within the shortest time.
`The leakage was minor and no damage to the facilities was observed. The pipes as well as the equipment are all in good shape,` the spokesman added.
