PIA airhostesses being harassed, says govt

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday admitted in the National Assembly there were reports of exploitation and harassment of airhostesses in the national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines.

"The reports were in notice of the prime minister, minister of defence and chairman PIA and that an inquiry has been ordered with in this regard," said Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Syed Tanveer Hussain while responding to a calling attention notice. The calling attention notice was given by Hanif Abbassi, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, Dr Ataur Rehman, Muhammad Laeeq Ahmed Khan and Asadullah Bhutto who drew the attention of the House towards alleged irregularities and corruption in the booking and flight operations and blackmailing of airhostess in the PIA.

The parliamentary secretary said the government was taking serious notice of discriminatory attitude with women in the PIA and take necessary actions to remove any kind of discriminatory attitude with women. He said whatever was being happening with the women in the PIA was not tolerable and strict action would be taken up against all those who were involved in these crimes. He said the PIA management has taken measures to improve the working of the national flag carrier and passenger's complaints were genuine.
