Pakistan Considering to Take Action Against Turkish Airlines for Bringing Passengers Without COVID-19 Test Result

Pakistan is considering to take action against Turkish Airlines for bringing passengers without COVID‑19 PCR test result.

Passengers traveling to Pakistan from an officially announced category of countries (called Category B) are required to carry certificate of a negative COVID‑19 PCR test 96 hours before air travel.

Turkey itself is listed in Category A countries from where COVID‑19 PCR test result is not required for travel to Pakistan.

Turkish Airlines operates regular passenger flights linking Istanbul with Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore bringing large number of passengers from various countries who take airline's connecting flights to Pakistan from Istanbul.

I don't understand why Pakistan is creating this huge hassle - 99% people flying to Pakistan are either paksitani citizens, or those with family ties (nicop/pak-origin card).

Are we really going to create so much hassle for pakistan's own people, when there are huge political rallies happening spreading the virus in the country?

On top of that, the passtrack app doesn't even work, and then airlines add stupid rules of bringing printed results so you can't even show an email and have to run around to find a printer/scanner.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has imposed a fine of PKR 100,000/- on Turkish Airlines for transporting a passenger from Bamako (Mali) to Lahore via Istanbul without COVID-19 test.

Turkish Airlines operate flights between Bamako (BKO) and Istanbul (IST) with Boeing 737-900ER.

Pakistan has placed Mali in 'Category B' countries. Passengers traveling from 'Category B' countries need to carry negative COVID‑19 RT‑PCR test taken within 96 hours of the travel date for entering Pakistan.

The Pakistani national passenger without the required COVID-19 test for travel to Pakistan was flown by Turkish Airlines from Bamako (Mali) to Istanbul on October 15. The passenger without COVID-19 test was stranded in Istanbul since October 15. The passenger remained at Istanbul Airport without visa and hotel accommodation. Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey took notice of the situation on October 21 and arranged Pakistan foreign ministry authorization for passenger's travel to Pakistan. Turkish Airlines has been advised by Pakistan CAA to transport the passenger to Lahore by seating him in last and vacant row of the aircraft. Passenger will disembark at Lahore Airport after disembarkation of all other passengers. The airline will have to bear passenger's quarantine and COVID-19 test expenses upon arrival in Lahore.

PKR 100,000/- fine imposed by Pakistan CAA will have to be deposited by Turkish Airlines in CAA Collection Account at Karachi Airport.

Earlier, in a letter dated October 13, 2020, Pakistan CAA had advised Turkish Airlines to refrain from transporting such passengers to Pakistan.

I found it quite unprofessional how this letter was posted on their Facebook page with full passenger information and their passport numbers.
