Interesting article and well written.
I wonder answer to one question. May be someone knows the exact reason.
Lets assume ideally, European /Cathay Pacific/Singapore airlines decide to come back and they are satisfied with security.. The question is , whether will they be able to beat Middle eastern airlines who carry almost all north american, european ,australian traffic from Pakistan despite offering direct flights? Or on Pakistani soil, they will be defeated by Middle eastern ones??

it's not possible for the government to change bilateral flight rights in a few days, even aviation is not on their agenda. PIA alone cannot fight on international routes dominated by middle east carriers and domestic where serene is giving them a tough time. As all airlines of Pakistan are facing a severe financial crunch, its time to nationalize air blue and remaining shaheen and serene (if they are willing) and make one strong airline to survive otherwise no one will be able to survive. By this PIA will be able to somehow control on employee and aircraft ratio without firing anyone. the vacuum created by 19 shaheen aircraft is going to the middle east as Saudigulf started on these routes and Saudia Arabian airlines doubles Multan frequency. none of the Pakistani airlines is taking advantage of this situation, its time for the government to act fast and save aviation

correctly ... The merger of PIA, shaheen, serene, airblue if SOMWHOW happens can save commerical aviation of Pak..otherwise..no chance in distant sight

Nationalization of private carriers is no more an option. Government to spell out an attractive Aviation policy to let budgeted International carriers operate in Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistani investors.

Isnt Serene a joint venture between Pakistani and Chinese investors? Or just Chinese?

Shut down PIA, build a new airline with a 50/50 Public Private partnership to replace it, just my 2 cents!
