According to PIA clarification, aircraft doors were closed and it was ready for push back awaiting air traffic controller clearance. Engines of the aircraft were not started at that time.

Apparently the passenger cabin air conditioning was unavailable for about thirty minutes.

Seems the Boeing 777's Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) was not functioning after removal of Ground Power Unit (GPU) for aircraft push back before the start of aircraft engines.

The incident happened on August 3 at the time of aircraft's departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport as flight PK-750 to Islamabad, according to news sources.

CEO PIA Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan has ordered investigation.

So when the aircraft is pushing back the AC stops working because the engines are not running and there is no ground power? Its a question? If no AC what about just the fans to keep the air circulating?

As an alternate procedure, one engine is started at the gate using ground bleed, if APU is in op, otherwise how would the engines start after leaving the stand?
But there seems to be some other issue as per PIA statement.

not sure/ knowledgeable enough how long regulations allow to run one engine at gate but normally its started before pushback only

They could have arranged an AC cart. even if APU was operative, it couldnt have provided enough cooling for the whole aircraft packed with passengers.

This incident speaks of poor management only

Thank you dear colleagues for providing such useful information on this process. Such a key component (APU) non operational in so many aircrafts by itself is an indicator of the myriad of troubles of PIA. With so many flights getting delayed almost on a daily basis, and on a lighter note, perhaps another bakra sadaqa is required on the tarmac. Hailing for divine intervention to resolve our beloved airline's troubles-the only viable hope at the moment it seems.

Paris Incident

A show cause notice has been issued to the PIA’s Station manager in Paris, Matiullah Khan, for allegedly failing to handle a situation owing to which passengers in a PIA aircraft experienced severe suffocation and an infant was affected a few days back, it is learnt here reliably.

According to sources, the aircraft after having its doors closed and leaving the terminal had stayed at ground for a considerably long time and its APU / other equipment were also not operating properly, and as the ground support unit (air conditioning van) had also left so without the airconditioning the passengers started to feel suffocation and an infant was particularly affected.

A video regarding the incident had gone viral a few days back, which prompted the airline to initiate an inquiry.

The sources said that the action was also being initiated against the pilot of the aircraft, Rao A. Taimur, for not handling the situation effectively.

Responding to Dawn queries on Tuesday, PIA spokesperson Tajwar said that a show cause notice has been issued to the PIA’s station manager in Paris over his poor performance and mishandling the flight PK-750 on Aug 3, 2018.
