Karachi-bound PIA ATR Flight PK-585 Returns to Dera Ghazi Khan Due to Engine Problem

According to Express News channel, today PIA ATR 72-500 registration AP-BKV performing Dera Ghazi Khan to Karachi flight PK-585 returned to Dera Ghazi Khan Airport after takeoff due to engine problem.

According to information on Karachi Airport website, flight PK-585 from Dera Ghazi Khan was scheduled to land at Karachi at 4:00 PM. The status of flight was changed to cancelled at 7:30 PM.

Karachi-bound flight PK-585 departed from Dera Ghazi Khan Airport at 2:07 PM and returned to Dera Ghazi Khan Airport at 2:12 PM.

There were fifty-eight passengers aboard the aircraft.

According to information on following link, PIA ATR 72-500 (AP-BKV) had departed from Dera Ghazi Khan Airport at 2:02 PM as flight PK-585 to Karachi. The flight's scheduled departure time was 2:05 PM.

Plane makes emergency landing

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A Karachi-bound PIA plane made an emergency landing soon after take-off from local airport after one of its engines malfunctioned.

Airport sources told DAWN that fifty-eight passengers and four crew members were on board the ATR plane.

According to PIA spokesman, the pilot noticed malfunctioning in engine number two soon after take-off and brought the plane back.

The airport manager said alternative plane had been arranged to take passengers to their destination.

According to a newspaper report, the aircraft engine emitted flames due to bird hit during takeoff/initial climb.

PIA ATR 72-500 (AP-BKV) seen parked at Dera Ghazi Khan Airport on May 9.

On May 10, PIA Airbus A320 (AP-BLV) Karachi to Quetta flight PK-310 with more than 160 passengers was re-routed via Dera Ghazi Khan to transport Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127 turboprop spare engine/spare parts for airline's stranded ATR 72-500 (AP-BKV).

The A320 landed at Dera Ghazi Khan Airport around 1:47 PM

Later, the A320 departed from Dera Ghazi Khan Airport at 3:54 PM to resume flight PK-310 to Quetta.

Three PIA aircraft engineers already had arrived in Dera Ghazi Khan to replace the affected engine of the ATR. The turboprop aircraft will be sent to Karachi upon completion of engine change and clearance certificate from engineering personnel.
