Decision on Islamabad's Old Airport Soon

Post by Abbas Ali »

ISLAMABAD - A high-level meeting is expected next week to decide future role of the Benazir Bhutto International Air Port (BBIAP) - Islamabad after shifting of all its commercial operations to the new Islamabad International Airport from Thursday. The meeting to be arranged by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is likely to be chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Some reports suggest that the government may retain the BBIAP as facility to be used for the visits of foreign dignitaries to Pakistan.

It should be given fully to Air force to use as Airbase and called as Nur Khan Airbase. Also, VIP flight like PK01. PK02 , or for foreign head of states flights or emergency diversions could use this Airport.

VIPs, VVIPs still using Benazir airport

5/16/2018

RAWALPINDI:
Despite the fact that the new green field airport had been made operational for international and domestic flights, VIPs including former president and prime ministers are still using Benazir Bhutto airport.

According to sources, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz flew to Lahore on Tuesday by a special plane from Benazir Bhutto International Airport while the Punjab Chief Minister used Nur Khan Airbase.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari also landed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Tuesday.

A security official told Dawn although the new airport had state guest lounges and other facilities for VVIPs and VIPs, they were still using Benazir Airport and Nur Khan Airbase, apparently for being closer to Islamabad and more secure.

He said the new airport might be used by them after the road network to the new airport is completed and security agencies gave their clearance for the VVIP and VIP movements.

Benazir Bhutto Airport No longer exists, they are all fluid to PAF Base Nur Khan. A bit of research would have helped them realize that.

I think VIPs should continue using Nur Khan base indefinitely as it would spare the travelling public the hassle associated with VIP movements.

Maybe former president, prime minister and other politicians' helicopter/executive jet flights using general aviation area of Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

I don't think they can use PAF Base Nur Khan VIP terminal.

This airport should be returned to PAF as NUR KHAN AIRBASE and all the VVIP traffic and foreign visits should be taken through the VIP area which is already in place and in good order.

The old BBIA apron can be used for parking such aircrafts.

They should keep the VVIPs away from the New Islamabad Airport as much as possible. I remember travelling last year on Gulf Air and the aircraft had to circle for 45 minutes to allow some stupid Vazeeer to escape or return etc etc .... say No more.

Seems international flights of executive jets are also being operated from Benazir Bhutto International Air Port (BBIAP) - Islamabad.

Today, a man named Zulfi Bukhari accompanying PTI Chairman Imran Khan on his visit to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah was stopped by FIA for documents checking at the airport.

Rename the airport to Benizir Bhutto Executive Airport, renovate the building to meet those needs, ask a few charter airlines to have planes based there and wallah Pakistan’s 1% has their own airport!
