Sukhoi Super Jet visits Karachi

Yesterday on 1st February 2017 Sukhoi sent in their SSJ-100 aka Super Jet to Karachi for marketing to PIA.
PSPK had the opportunity to get some up close photos of the aircraft.









The aircraft is being marketed at $35 Million per aircraft and should be a good choice on short haul domestic routes, what is your opinion on SSJ's possibly entering PIA's or some other Pakistani airline's fleet?

Seems very similar to City Hopper (Bombardier) which KLM uses for short hauls e.g., Geneva-Amsterdem. Don't know how much that one is worth.

Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 (97005) visited Karachi in May 2012 also.



At that time newspapers reported order for three Sukhoi Superjets placed by Air Indus.

This particular SSJ-100 is the first one with new winglets (called saberlets by Sukhoi). First flight with winglets was recently conducted on 22nd of December 2017. Maybe some new airline is interested in this model.

Although the aircraft is good, it comes with poor after sales support and spare parts shortage. If PIA inducts these, we will see half of the fleet grounded to keep the rest in the air. PIA cannot even find spares for Boeing/Airbus planes.

According to a newspaper report, on February 2 the Sukhoi Superjet arrived in Islamabad where it was toured by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi.

PIA Airbus A320 crew was aboard Sukhoi Superjet on its flight from Karachi to Islamabad.

Later, the aircraft departed from Islamabad for flight to Vientiane (Laos).

According to City42 News, PIA may acquire a number Sukhoi Superjet fly-by-wire twin-engine regional jets on lease and operate them on some of currently loss-making ATR turboprop aircraft routes.

Maybe Sukhot Superjet to replace ATR 72-500 on some routes?

Recently, PIA indicated plan to phase out ATR 72-500 from its fleet.

According to DAWN News channel, PIA has not confirmed plan to acquire Sukhoi SuperJet regional jets.

Any aircraft acquisition needs approval from PIA Board of Directors, said airline's spokesperson.

According to news report on following link, Pakistanis have sought time from Russians for consultations to make decision on 100-seater Sukhoi Superjet induction in PIA fleet. Pakistanis experts will study and evaluate the aircraft before making decision.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Chairman PIA Irfan Elahi and CEO PIA Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan took part in talks with Sukhoi officials in Islamabad where the demo aircraft was also inspected by Mr. Abbasi.

Other options such as the A318, CRJ Family and the C-Series should also be considered before they make a decision.

What PIA really Needs is a plane like the Boeing MoM or the A321neoLR
