Sad news.

In January 1966, Asghar Khan was appointed to lead PIA and during his three-year tenure the airline achieved lowest aircraft accident rate and highest net profit of Pakistan Rupees 55,000,000 earned till that time.

Karachi, January 5, 2018: Musharraf Rasool Cyan President & CEO PIA has expressed his grief at the sad demise of Air Marshal (Retd.) Asghar Khan, who served as President of Pakistan International Airlines from 1965 till 1968.
On behalf ofthe PIA family, he expressed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and admirers of late Air Marshal Asghar Khan. Air Marshal Asghar Khan headed Pakistan International Airlines with great commitment, honesty and professionalism and will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of the National Flag Carrier. He played an instrumental role in the development of the airline and the airline owes a debt of gratitude to his dedicated services.
It was during the late 60’s that the first computer in Pakistan (IBM1401) was installed in PIA, a new jet hangar for Boeings and a supporting air frame overhaul shop were commissioned and completed. It was also during this period that passengers carried on domestic services crossed the million mark.

A PIA Boeing 707 undergoing maintenance checks inside jet hangar inaugurated in 1967/68 at Karachi Airport when the airline was led by Air Marshal Asghar Khan as its President.
Uniform designed by French fashion designer Pierre Cardin for PIA cabin crew was introduced when the airline was led by Air Marshal Asghar Khan as its President.
Brand new Boeing 707s were inducted in PIA fleet when the airline was led by Air Marshal Asghar Khan as its President.

Flypast by formation of four K-8 Karakorum jet trainer aircraft of Pakistan Air Force Academy Asghar Khan, Risalpur, paying final homage to Air Marshal Asghar Khan. The aircraft appeared from the north and exited towards the south.

Four Cessna T-37 jet trainer aircraft of Pakistan Air Force Academy Asghar Khan, Risalpur, gave aerial salute to Air Marshal Asghar Khan by flying missing man formation in which number two pulled up out of the formation over the final resting place of Air Marshal Asghar Khan. This missing man formation maneuver signified that today the bond holding Air Marshal Asghar Khan to this mortal world has been broken.

Karachi: February 2, 2018 - Former President PIA and Commander-in-Chief Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Air Marshal (Retd) Asghar Khan, was paid rich and glowing tributes at a condolence reference held PIA Training Centre.
President & CEO PIA Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan, President Royal Aeronautical Society (Pakistan Division) Air Marshal (Retd) Saleem Arshad, Former Chief Pilot Corporate Safety PIA Capt Jan Muhammad Sadiq, Ali Asghar Khan son of late Asghar Khan, Senior Vice President Royal Aeronautical Society Saeed Akhter, former Chief Instructor PIA Bilqis Ahmed, friends, senior officials and large number of PIA employees attended the ceremony.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Cyan said that late Asghar Khan was among the founding fathers of this great country in general and PIA and PAF in particular. He was an icon not only for his generation but for all generations to come. His contributions to both great institutions will be remembered for long time. Dr. Cyan said we shall certainly follow his great principles of honesty, dedication and hard work in spirit and letter.
Speaking at the reference, late Asghar Khan’s son Ali Asghar Khan said that he was overwhelmed with the affection of people for his great father. “I cannot forget the love of people for my father and the gathering of people to pay homage to him is itself an ample proof of his sincerity and dedication for the country”, he said.
Air Marshal (Retd) Saleem Arshad said it was Asghar Khan who was the real force behind making PAF, Capt. Jan Sadiq, Saeed Akhter, and Bilqis Ahmed who worked with late Asghar Khan shared their memories and paid glowing tributes to him. Bilqis Ahmed said that Asghar Khan was the first head of PIA who ensured equal opportunity to women in all spheres of airline and females were promoted as flight pursers.
