^ Nice photo - thank you for sharing.

Is AP-BGJ going to be in livery without stripes on fuselage like sported by airline's Boeing 777s AP-BGZ and AP-BMS?

One main difference between the two liveries part from stripes is the colour of PIA titles near cockpit windows. The livery on AP-BMS and AP-BGZ has gold PIA titles while the others have green. Looks like they have painted green titles this time on AP-BGJ. I guess the stripes livery is going to be painted here.

PIA rebranding aims to rectify errors, build global image

JUNE 28, 2018

LAHORE:
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday said that the modification of aircrafts is part of its comprehensive PIA improvement plan with a view to enhancing market signalling and converting into higher sales.

“It is planned as thoughtful expenditure timed with improvements in plane interiors and services. It has been conceived as an integral part of PIA turnaround strategy comprising well organised investments in fleet, systems, people and image of the airline to attract back customers, especially the youth of Pakistan,” PIA said in a recently published report.

Mentioning the reasons to repaint and modify the aircrafts, PIA said that the aircrafts are being rebranded to minimise fuel costs, prevent safety concerns and prevent corrosion of aircraft parts. “Typically, airlines paint their aircraft every 4-7 years, depending upon safety requirement and conditions in which the airlines operate,” PIA added.

“PIA follows the same schedule with partial to full paint as per respective maintenance schedule of the aircraft. The planned livery change is timed with upcoming and future repaints as and when required and does not entail expenditure otherwise,” it said.

PIA has had 7 liveries since its inception. For most of its history, PIA did not have flag on the tail.

PIA further added that changes have also been made because new look means changed perception, while it also helps make the brand gain recognition in the international market. Moreover, it added that the Markhor logo on the aircraft represents Pakistan’s commitment to promote its national icons.

It further said that the use of national icons on aircrafts builds on symbolism while taking a step toward highlighting the beauty of Pakistan. “Markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, which came back from extinction and became a Pakistani success story of survival was painted as the logo because of its revival against all odds,” it added. It was also said that the livery work has been undertaken with the commitment to turnaround PIA and make it a thriving airline in the market, but at the same time only undertaking necessary expenditures over time at costs much lower than branding costs incurred by commercial concerns. Livery and paint job of total fleet is 0.8 percent of the total planned investments in aircrafts of US $259 million on nose to tail upgrade, $36m on rotables, consumables and CSP, $180m on engine overhauls by PIA Engineering over the next 12 months.

PIA said that the need for rebranding was necessary since it was the only pragmatic solution to the underlying problems, and to create a distinctive identity to help change its perception and outlook. “Fixing the deep-rooted problems that persist within PIA is a long, tedious and uphill journey. While this will always remain our first priority, we must also keep the ball rolling and find quick-wins along the way to boost confidence and faith in the airline for all stakeholders,” it said. It was added that PIA is subject to surprise inspections since it operates in heavily safety regulated territories across the globe. Moreover, PIA aircrafts are inspected for standards regularly over passenger and aircraft safety, and availability of mandatory requirements to the airframe integrity and safety from corrosion.

In last 12 months, it was told, PIA has had 6 different Category II SAFA observations regarding the need to repair chipping off of paint on the aircraft which required immediate rectification steps for standards compliance.

PIA’s aircrafts now require fresh paint job and there is a maintenance schedule already set up by PIA Engineering for shop visits.

In April, PIA unveiled the new corporate look with its logo and design to include a painting of the Markhor in a ceremony in the federal capital. Officials of PIA and Civil Aviation, including Secretary Aviation Irfan Elahi, President and CEO Musharraf Rasool, COO Zia Qadir, CCO Bilal Munir Sheikh, Chief Technical Officer Amir Ali and HR Chief Asma Bajwa were also present on the occasion.

“Improve Aircraft Lavatory Conditions Instead of Using Pictures of Markhor" - Supreme Court

Image

The Supreme Court, while hearing a suo motu case on the use of the Markhor logo on PIA planes in place of the national flag, banned recruitment of new pilots until the court announced its verdict in the case.

The apex court also ordered the auditor-general of Pakistan to conduct a special audit of the airline for the past decade.

SC temporarily bars PIA from using Markhor logo on planes

“Improve the bathroom conditions instead of using pictures of the Markhor,” Chief Justice Nisar remarked, adding that favouritism had harmed the institution.

On May 13, the Supreme Court had temporarily barred PIA from using the Markhor logo on the tail of its planes instead of the national flag.

The national carrier earlier this year had decided to revamp its aircrafts’ exterior to highlight its commitment to the preservation of Pakistan’s national animal.

Supreme Court Orders PIA to Present a Report Regarding the Award of Contract for Pasting Markhor Stickers on Aircraft

The Pakistan International Airlines on Thursday banned recruitment of new pilots until the case of the national carrier’s use of a Markhor instead of the Pakistani flag on its aircraft was pending before the Supreme Court.

The court further ordered the auditor general of Pakistan to conduct a special audit of PIA for the last decade. “Improve the washroom conditions instead of putting up Markhor pictures,” Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar remarked. “The people responsible for this debacle have built housing schemes and farm houses.”

Justice Nisar further remarked that the SC was involved in the case to know the reasons behind PIA’s debacle. “PIA administration should be in able hands,” he further added. A plea was submitted to allow former advisor on aviation Shujat Azeem and former managing director Aslam Agha to travel abroad.

The court, granted provisional allowance to both, adjourned the hearing until June 30.

On May 13, SC temporarily barred PIA from using the logo of Markhor on the tail of its planes instead of the national flag. When the CJP inquired what was replacing the Pakistani flag on the planes’ tails, PIA Managing Director Musharraf Rasool Cyan replied that the new logo will be of the country’s national animal—Markhor.

The court took up the case on an application filed in the SC Human Rights Cell in response to which Nisar ordered to halt the makeover of PIA aircraft until a report is submitted on the matter.

He also ordered MD Cyan to present a report regarding the award of contract for pasting stickers of the Markhor on the planes. In response to CJ’s question pertaining to cost of the said endeavor, MD PIA stated that it would cost Rs2.7 million per plane to change the logo.

PIA has requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan to allow implementation of new livery in which image of Markhor is displayed on aircraft tail.

The airline says that Pakistan flag is moved from aircraft tail to fuselage in the new livery.

During the court proceedings, the Chief Justice got upset over something and threatened to hand over CEO PIA to Director General (DG) National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The CEO PIA had to apologize to the Chief Justice.

What kind of court proceeding is this.. If MD PIA has really done something wrong, he should be proceeded against as per law, why such a threat?, and if he hasnt done so, what kind of remark is this.
Courts should have decorum and order, not a sultan rahi type filmi scene

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has imposed ban on replacement of Pakistan flag with image on Markhor wild goat on PIA aircraft tail.

Replacement of Pakistan flag with Markhor image on any further aircraft of the airline will be considered as contempt of court.

Currently only one PIA aircraft - an Airbus A320 registration AP-BLU - is sporting airline's new livery with image of Markhor on aircraft tail.

I myself donot like new livery, but I strongly believe that its not SC jurisdiction to interfere in such matters.
