Pakistan Army No. 28 "Dragons" Squadron SA 330 Puma helicopter using sling technique to carry Special Services Group (SSG) commandos. The sling technique is used in places like high altitude terrain and surface water where helicopter landing is not possible.

Abbas
Btw, this so called Sling technique has never been used neither is of any practical value. Troops are always carried inside the helicopter and repel at the Landing Zone through ropes. One one occasion during Siachin conflict, three soldiers were carried one be one on a sling under Lama helicopter.
THis in my opinion is more of display and thrill than any tactical use.

Yes u r right Tailwind, this display invented by my brother(who was then Major and captain of Puma) and his colleagues in army aviation in late 90s, it is only for display for 6 September and very hard to carried out because when helicopter was airborne, the rope twisted with air pressure and hanging persons start to circle, so they crossed their hands with each other and make a human wall and after so many practice they were succeeded. Now it could be use for any tactical move also.

Thank you bnm for information. However I am still skeptical about its tactical use. With no arrangement to jettison load (hanging humans) troops are at great risk in case of emergency landing. More over helicopter cant be flown at high speeds over reasonable distances.
I am yet to find some over-riding advantage over other conventional forms of troop transport in a helicopter
