Gwadar Airport Runway to be Extended for Jet Flights

According to new sources, Gwadar Airport runway will be closed from July 1 to July 30 for runway extension work that will allow operation of jet aircraft like Airbus A320 at the airport.

5,000 feet long Runway 06/24 of Gwadar International Airport.

Currently, from Gwadar Airport PIA is operating non-stop flights to Karachi and Muscat with ATR turboprop aircraft.

2 NOTAMS are valid at the moment, so the runway is not fully closed but can be operational with 12 hr prior notice for emergency cases.

Apparently suspension of PIA ATR flights for Gwadar Airport began on July 1. The airline operated last flight PK-503 from Karachi to Gwadar on June 30.

According to DAWN News channel, despite closure of Gwadar Airport, PIA has issued passenger ticket for Gwadar flight.

Apparently PIA resumed operating flights for Gwadar on July 31.

As per this google map view, rwy has been extended on 06 end, using google measuring tool, the rwy length is 2000m / 6561 ft than previously 1524 m / 5000 ft

PIA is still using ATR-72 for Domestic flights to OPGD. is there shortage of infrastructure or lack of will hindering local airlines to launch islamabad to Gwadar direct Jet service
