Former MD PIA Air Marshal Azim Daudpota Passes Away

Former Managing Director PIA Air Marshal Azim Daudpota passed away after brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Daudpota joined Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on December 16, 1955, and took part in air combat missions during 1965 war with India in which he as PAF F-86F Sabre fighter pilot destroyed and silenced enemy's guns positioned at Wagah-Attari border. He was awarded Sitara-e-Jurrat.

Between 1983 and 1986 he was Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

In 1986 he returned to Pakistan to be appointed as MD PIA, and in 1989 in addition became airline's Chairman.

He also served as Governor Sindh from October 25, 1999, to May 24, 2000.

His funeral prayer will be performed after Zhur prayer at PAF Base Faisal, Karachi.

Air Marshal Azim Daudpota buried with full military honours at PAF Base Korangi Creek graveyard in Karachi. The funeral prayer was performed at PAF Base Faisal, Karachi.
