Domestic Airfare Prices Skyrocketed

Post by JIAP »

Dear Members,

I have recently travelled on several domestic legs between Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad for fares around an average of 7500 PKR. From the last two days I am unable to see any fares on any of the carriers below 10500 PKR

I have checked
Airblue
Serene
Shaheen
And PIA

Could any forum member please shed some me light on why this may be so.

Regards,

Maybe jet fuel price increased or some new tax added in fares?

Not just domestic, it seems international fares have increased as well. A couple of weeks ago when I had to fly back to Pakistan, the average range of ticket prices (return) was between 690-900 euros. Not Emirates/Qatar have tickets none below 1050 Euros. Maybe some forecast related to fuel prices has increased fares

I see the same from here. Some flights I saw a couple weeks ago have increased by nearly a couple hundred pounds too.

Wouldn't at least some of the airlines use fuel hedging to mitigate the chances of an increase like this though?

Another affectee! 15th March (PK 309) Islamabad-Karachi PIA paid 20,000 rupees (one way) while Karachi-Islamabad was 9 some thousand. Bought the ticket about a week before travel. Its absolutely crazy.

I dont see the oil prices affecting the fares...

I feel Islamabad - Karachi are equally distant as Srinagar - Mumbai.
Fares for Srinagar- Mumbai are as low as 3500 - 4200 from 26 march onwards..

I think fares usually go high when demand increases.

Given we have more than 22 dialy flights between Srinagar and Delhi yet, the fares are generally the same as Srinagar Mumbai even though SXR-Bom route is almost 3times in distance.

In peak tourist seasons Delhi-Srinagar fares goes as high as 20k, 30k..

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but is there any reason why there is an increase in demand at the moment?

To add more context, INR 4200 transform to 6700 PKR.

I see number of domestic flights operated between major routes are less in pakistan by the airliners. That means less available seats and more fares.

By the way I was travelling to chandigarh. While comming out of airport to Hotel I found a shop basically a travel agent by the name AirBlue travels. And to my surprise the plane in the background of advertising holding was Pakistani Airblue A320.

Srinagar Airport is to witness 100 flights a day in summer schedule 2017 if all goes well Insha Allah.
