Cant KHI handle a one time A380 flight?

Post by CoyBoy »

I am asking this because in 2015 EK had celebarated its 30th birthday, since KHI was their first destination they could have flown a one off A380 here, perhaps not fully loaded.

Do you have any idea of its wingspan?

It could park at a remote stand as its done elsewhere when doing one off or diversions, if being at gate is a prpblem, or do runways and taxiways have to be widened to cover the wings as well?

If it would be technically possible then EK would have started it pretty earlier. But to me it is just fine with 777 or A330, which ever operates, because by this we are having more than 3 flights in a single day and those who are using EK to fly to other countries than UAE, it would be better for them as for the connecting time!

On the other hand, I hope to see A380 in Pakistan!

I said one time service not regular flights, there should have been no problem doing that, considering Emirates have taken lots of traffic from other carriers that were serving Pakistan, and been granted multiple frequencies out of KHI, including seven daily at one point, that they did not give it any special treatment on their anniversary is strange.

They flew A380 to Amman to celebrate 30 years of flying there this month, to Delhi to celebrate opening of the new airport and to Tehran for no reason couple of years ago.

Tehran was to celebrate the opening of a fourth daily flight. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHSuv1Z ... l=Emirates

We gave them a fifth, sixth and seventh daily, no A380 came for those either atleast the seventh frequency could have been celebrated with that, especially since KHI was one of few destinations in their network getting this number of flights.

Must there not be also A380 compatible ground handling vehicles to handle the A380, such as pushback tugs, catering, etc Equipment. Are the pushback tugs at KHI able to push back an A380?

Neither do Tehran and Amman.

Or Colombo where A380s have diverted in the past.

Same push back tugs that can handle 747 can also be used to push back A380. But not sure if PIA still have them after retirement of 747.

There are ground handling companies capable of serving aircraft like An-124, An-225, Boeing 747 at Karachi Airport.

Dubai-based Gerry's Dnata recently announced plan to increase investment and import of more ground handling equipment for Pakistani airports.

I think the answer you are looking for is, because it's Pakistan. Sad but true.

No first class
No lounge
No chauffeur drive

Where else in EK's network do they serve a city 6-7 times per day and not offer those facilities?

It's all because there is no competition for them. EY and QR try but EK dominates and the Pakistani passengers love them for whatever reason.

You are absolutely right in saying they should have celebretatd this in KHI in some way but we are not important enough. We will fly then regardless because we have no choice. No European carriers like BOM or DEL.
