Pakistani Airports - Passenger Traffic

Post by Humsafar »

In 2014, Karachi's Jinnah International Airport served around 6.5 million passengers.
In 2014, Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International Airport served around 8.4 million passengers.
In 2015, Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport served around 9.3 million passengers.

As a city, Karachi has a population twice as large as Lahore and Islamabad, combined. Karachi is also Pakistan's economic and financial hub.
Nonetheless, per the passenger statistics I've pulled from Wikipedia, Karachi's airport served less traffic than either Lahore or Islamabad.

I was somewhat confused by this. Does anyone have any insights or potential explanations?

You can get the actual statistics for 2014-15 from the following link.

I assume that the figures you got are from WIKI. Not too long ago they mentioned that Karachi is serving 16 Million passengers and someone recently corrected that. The link that I provided you contains statistics from 2006 - 2015. Karachi definitely has seen an increase in the number of passengers and from my own calculations it should be around 7.2 - 7.5 million passengers for 2015-2016. It really is the busiest airport in Pakistan. Hope it helps.
