According to news sources, the board meeting has agreed to increase PIA pilots salary by 35 percent.

This increase in pilots' salary was accepted by PIA management when Pakistan Air Line Pilots Association (PALPA) member pilots of PIA ended their strike in October 2015.

PALPA also cooperated with the management & played role in ending PIA employees' unions strike in February 2016 against privatisation of the airline.

Raise in salaries: PIA to incur Rs one billion additional cost

April 01, 2016 NUZHAT NAZAR

Pakistan International Airlines will incur an additional cost of one billion per month by increasing the salaries of pilots up to 35 per cent, sources revealed. A meeting of PIA's Board of Directors was held at PIA office Islamabad on Thursday with Chairman PIA, Muhammad Irfan Elahi, in the chair. Yet another strategy has been formulated to revive the ailing national flag carrier, in which the board of directors mutually decided that working of PIA would be broadly divided into six divisions.

Segmenting the core functions into departments, to bring forth the efficiency and effectiveness, the board decided to divide the work into segments. These departments include Flight Operations, Commercial, Services, Technical & Planning, Human Resource Department & Administration and Finance.

Other departments including Safety & Quality, Information Technology (IT) and Security & Vigilance would be working under the Chief Operating Officer (COO), whereas Legal and Internal Audit would work under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) directly, said the source.

The meeting approved that IT department of PIA would be expanded to meet the requirements. The meeting also decided that pilots for ATR planes would be hired on a contract basis to meet the shortage and save training cost. Tenure of PIA's pilots is around a year after which they have to undergo training for Airbus A320. Therefore PIA has to incur a 'double training cost'. Their contract period would be valid till the limit of their licenses. The meeting also approved an ad hoc relief allowance of 16.5% of last year's salary expenditure for PIA pilots. The agreements of pilots expired in 2013 and since then new agreements couldn't be signed. Now this relief would be valid till PIA signs new agreement with the pilots.
