I thought wet lease was for Hajj?

And why are we doing an expensive wet lease when we plan to dry lease the airplane anyway? Are they wanting to train Pakistani pilots during the wet lease?

cost of a wet lease from Sri Lankan will be not much different from dry lease and using our own pilots.

I am sure the salary structure of pilots for Sri Lankan Airlines is very similar to the salary structure at PIA.

Plus it would give time to PIA to train their A310 crews on either the 777 or the A330 and eventually move these planes from a wet lease to a dry lease.

Yes according to Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Enterprise Development the Aircraft will be based at LHR and will be operated with Sri Lankan Cabin Crew.

Pakistan national carrier confirms talks with SriLankan on leasing four A330s

July 24, Islamabad: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) said it is in negotiations with the SriLankan Airlines for the wet lease of four wide-bodied A-330 aircraft.

Pakistan's national carrier had advertised for leasing wide body aircraft last month and Sri Lanka's national carrier expressed interest in leasing out its four new wide body A-330 aircraft to PIA, the airline said in a statement.

A high-level team of PIA led by CEO, Mr. Bernd Hildenbrand recently visited Colombo to inspect these aircraft and to negotiate a contract, PIA said. With the wet lease of the four aircraft, PIA will also get the services of its accompanying crew.

"The aircraft will be operated for PIA by Sri Lankan crew and it will be based in London. It will fly to Islamabad and Lahore and we are also in talks to give them three more Airbus A330 planes," Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Enterprise Development Kabir Hashim said last week.

These planes would primarily be used for PIA's premier service which is being launched from 14th August 2016.

"With new aircraft, more professional crew and improved service standards, the new service aims at providing an altogether different experience to passengers. This service will go a long way in helping PIA regain its market share both domestically as well as internationally," the Pakistani carrier said.

Under bids invitation in this topic, for wide-body aircraft on dry lease, companies offering Boeing 777s were declared lowest evaluated bidders.

The SriLankan Airbus A330s are apparently being acquired under bidding invitation on following link under which PIA sought wide-body aircraft on wet lease.

Why do they need four wet leased A330 based at LHR, when in total they have 10 weekly flights?

I doubt that all of the 4 would be based at LHR maybe only one of them will be based there.

Perhaps they will increase frequency from/to LHR from LHE,ISB and KHI to offer more weekly flights (if they have the necessary slots at LHR)

It seems odd that they are trying to start a premium service on a wet leased plane that won't have their brand on or there own crew.

Suppose you buy a ticket for Delta Airlines and at the last moment you see an aircraft of a local airline in US which gave Delta their plane on lease, would this all effect your trip or the services which will be provided to you by Delta? :-k I don't think so!

What happen to 4 A320 and 2 Mexican 777? Did PIA put this acquisition on hold in favor of premium service?

Today Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed informed members of national assembly that:

* Currently there are 38 aircraft in PIA fleet.

* More aircraft are being acquired on dry lease to expand/enhance airline's route network.
