Pakistan national carrier confirms talks with SriLankan on leasing four A330s
July 24, Islamabad: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) said it is in negotiations with the SriLankan Airlines for the wet lease of four wide-bodied A-330 aircraft.
Pakistan's national carrier had advertised for leasing wide body aircraft last month and Sri Lanka's national carrier expressed interest in leasing out its four new wide body A-330 aircraft to PIA, the airline said in a statement.
A high-level team of PIA led by CEO, Mr. Bernd Hildenbrand recently visited Colombo to inspect these aircraft and to negotiate a contract, PIA said. With the wet lease of the four aircraft, PIA will also get the services of its accompanying crew.
"The aircraft will be operated for PIA by Sri Lankan crew and it will be based in London. It will fly to Islamabad and Lahore and we are also in talks to give them three more Airbus A330 planes," Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Enterprise Development Kabir Hashim said last week.
These planes would primarily be used for PIA's premier service which is being launched from 14th August 2016.
"With new aircraft, more professional crew and improved service standards, the new service aims at providing an altogether different experience to passengers. This service will go a long way in helping PIA regain its market share both domestically as well as internationally," the Pakistani carrier said.
