Today, PIA Airbus A320-214 registration AP-BLV departed from Islamabad at 1:05 PM as VIP flight PK-2 to Saudi Arabia.

* On March 7, AP-BLV arrived in Karachi at 9:17 PM as PIA commercial flight PK-305 from Lahore.

* On March 8, the A320 was ferried from Karachi to Islamabad as flight PK-8370. The A320 departed from Karachi at 8:05 PM and and landed at Islamabad at 9:41 PM.

Apparently it means the aircraft underwent cabin configuration changes in Karachi for performing VIP flight PK-2.

Why PIA for his trips ????Perhaps he should now wait for his Pakistan Airways new B787s to arrive and use them for his non-productive trips.

Because PIA depends on financial assistance, leased aircraft (including AP-BLV) etc. arranged by the government of Pakistan and as government-run national flag carrier airline (at least for the time being) it's the duty of PIA to operate VIP flights for the President and Prime Minister whenever required.

It's contradictory to protest at the same time against partial privatization of the airline and usage of its aircraft by the government.

Is it not possible for PM/delegates to go on a normal flight?

There are direct flights between Riyadh and Islamabad I believe by Saudia. Not sure if PIA serves. Then take car or helicopter to that military airport.

Even if gov't pays for this trip, it is big dent. Empty airplane coming from KHI to ISB and then going back and forth to Saudi. Must cost some hundreds of thousands of dollars (including loss of full revenue flight)

Dear Uzairali,

Waalaikum salaam,

I appreciate your sentiments and your thinking. I am not going to offend you or sarcastically speak here but I just wanna ask you one question,

"Do you really think that our 'brave', 'honest', 'loyal' etc etc politicians/leaders etc would do what you say here?"

Most of the forum members also think the same way like you do because we are definitely more loyal to our country than these politicians, otherwise these leaders could had thought of it and never waste the money on this useless thing. Never mind how 'cheap' the living of these PMs/presidents normally are for Pakistani people.

Delegations from other countries also arrived directly at King Khaled Military City Airport I guess due to security and transportation arrangements made by Saudis at that airport near Hafar Al-Batin.

I don't think Saudis as hosts would have wanted to make separate security & transportation arrangements for Pakistani delegation arriving at a different airport of Saudi Arabia on some commercial flight.

Commercial flights especially of foreign airlines I think are also not recommended by security agencies for transportation of such high-level civilian & military delegations.

Most likely Saudis would have sent their own VIP aircraft in case of unavailability of PAF or PIA aircraft for transportation of Pakistani delegation.

Personally, I prefer to see Pakistani civilian and military leadership use Pakistani civilian or military aircraft instead of using aircraft of some other country.

For what purpose the fleet of VIP aircrafts are there which belongs to Govt. They can flew till USA by making any fueling stop. PM can use PIA plane if the delegation going to foreign trip is such a big that these VIP fleet have not capacity to move with that.

Btw PM could not have taken J-756 because that was taken by President for the OIC conference. So PM taking 320 is justified here at least.
And J-756 got back yesterday evening.

^ Yes, J-756 carried president to Indonesia on March 6. There's also another PAF Gulfstream serial number J-755 and majority of VIP flights are performed for prime minister and president by these two PAF Gulfstreams.

PIA aircraft is utilised only for larger delegations.

It's better to use PIA aircraft for VIP flight when required instead of spending money on buying & maintaining a larger dedicated VIP aircraft.

Recently President of Sri Lanka travelled on PIA 320 to Pakistan and before that the state head of Maldives also used the PIA A-320.
