Two ATR 72-500 aircraft were formally inducted in Pakistan Navy in August 2013.
A third ATR 72-500 in Pakistan Navy markings with pre-delivery Maltese registration 9H-AGI was seen in France in recent days.

If I'm not mistaken all the ATRs in the PN are in passenger configuration.
What purpose do these aircraft serve in this capacity? And how effective are they in maritime patrolling with this configuration?
Just wondering if a poor country like Pakistan can afford to transport its Navy personal between Karachi, Ormara, Pasni and Gawadar utilizing FOUR ATRs.

I think in the near future some of these ATRs will undergo modification to perform maritime patrol flights and replace ageing Fokker F27s in Pakistan Navy inventory in that role.malshah wrote:If I'm not mistaken all the ATRs in the PN are in passenger configuration.

Probably these will also be modified to drop navy's paratroopers/commandos.

Probably one ATR will be kept in passenger/cargo configuration for transportation of navy personnel/cargo items between different bases.

So this would be the fourth (4) ATR for the Navy?

^ Yes, it should be the fourth one.
Is it possible to know number of Fokker F27s currently active in navy's inventory and when are they going to be phased out? ATRs are expected to replace F27s in Pakistan Navy.
In recent times, Pakistan Navy Fokker F27 Friendship Mark 400M serial number AR-NZW / 75 was seen taking part in relief operations in the country.

^ I think they have F27s built in 60s/70s. Hard to get info about number of currently active aircraft.
BTW, Pakistan Navy appears to have good F27 operations safety record.

Serial number 80 is a Pakistan Navy Lockheed P-3C Orion.
BTW, the first two ATRs of Pakistan Navy are:
Serial number 78 - ATR 72-500 construction number 712.
Serial number 79 - ATR 72-500 construction number 788.

^ Pakistan Navy ATRs don't have Pakistani civilian aircraft registration marks.
They have military aircraft serial numbers:
Serial number 78 for ATR 72-500 construction number 712.
Serial number 79 for ATR 72-500 construction number 788.
