PIA, Shaheen Airlines likely to lose licences owing to CAA’s outstanding dues

NEWS report;

PIA, Shaheen Airlines likely to lose licences owing to CAA’s outstanding dues.

Licences of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Shaheen Air International are likely to be revoked owing to billions rupees of outstanding dues with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

A report compiled by departmental account committee states that PIA owes Rs 18 billion to the aviation authority while Shaheen owes Rs 2 billion.

Authorities have warned of revocation of licenses if the companies fail to make the payments. Shaheen Airline’s regular public transport, charter air transport and aerial work licenses are going to expired on Friday.

On the other hand, PIA will need to renew its licences on April 2 2016.

The national airline’s General Manager Daniyal Gilani said that the dues would be paid. He vowed to not let PIA’s licences get revoked.

In such situations, PIA often seeks government intervention especially if the airline is unable to make payment.

State-run PSO for quite sometime has been asking PIA to make due payments and apparently government stops PSO from taking tough against the national flag carrier airline.

In May 2006, Shaheen Air operations were suspended by CAA due to non-payment of dues. I think at that time Shaheen Air operations were suspended for one or two days before it was allowed to resume operations after making payment to CAA.
