CAA Cancels Licence of PIA Pilot For Crossing Flight Time/Duty Limitation

Post by Abbas Ali »

According to a Express News channel, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has cancelled licence of a PIA pilot for crossing flight time/duty limitation.

The pilot performed duty for sixteen hours. Maximum duty limit is ten hours, according to the news channel.

Pakistan Air Line Pilots' Association (PALPA) president says that licence is cancelled illegally without providing any reason.

On the insistence of PIA management, the pilot performed long duty to prevent flight from getting delayed, according to PALPA.

Forty percent of PIA flights could be affected if PIA pilots refuse to perform long duty, says PALPA.

Cancellation of the pilot license right away was a brutal action by CAA , CAA may have suspend his license for 90 or more days and given him a written warning , on a repeated violation of same nature CAA should have taken that action.
Pilots duty time violations are taken seriously everywhere in the world, airline he was working for must have been aware of this , airline must have pushed him for.
Unless some thing else was going on , It is unheard that CAA ever cancelled the license of airline and general aviation pilots involved in more serious proficiency related mistakes.
Airplane is flown with brain not with stick and rudder.

What about the other pilots terminated from PIA over fake matric/inter certificates, now serving other private airlines using PCAA licenses. What about CAA charging fines from private airlines over their crew exceeding FDTL in past, where as one side they are directly cancelling a license.

Information about PALPA executive committee meeting on Geo News.

PALPA has advised member pilots to operate Hajj flights.

PALPA members will not operate flights that are against working agreement between PIA and pilots' association.

PIA flights are getting delayed due to poor planning and the airline should hire capable/competent directors and scheduling officers, says PALPA.

Why only pilot, why no action against the operator for violation of FDP. Where is the scheduling department.
I am also a bit confused on the issue, can an agreement b/w pilots and airline (going by the book or not) violate the CAA rules????
Such arrangement, if any should be only about the overtime etc but within the provisions of the CAA rules, am i right?

Maybe CAA and PIA led by Aviation Division did a preemptive strike by suspending/cancelling PALPA member pilot licence to pressurise pilots' association and prevent it from "going by the book" from October 1 and bring it to negotiations table?

BTW, according to newspaper reports, licence of two PIA/PALPA member pilots have been suspended by CAA. One for one year and the other other one for two years.

Yesterday in the morning, news channels were reporting cancellation of a pilot's licence by CAA.

According to news channels:

PALPA says:

* Pilots leaving PIA to join other airlines.
* One pilot doing duty of four pilots in PIA.

PIA says:

* PALPA allegation that PIA grounded Boeing 747-300 is not true. That aircraft has completed its flight cycles and PIA has stopped flying it for passenger safety.

* A PIA pilot who is PALPA secretary general was not allowed to join Boeing 777 training course because he failed to meet requirements for that course.

According to news channels;

CAA says:

Two PIA pilots operated Sialkot to Riyadh flight PK-755 & Riyadh to Siakot flight PK-756 that had suffered delay of more than nine hours. Their action put lives of passengers and crew at risk. Licence of both pilots have been suspended for violating flight time/duty limitation.

PIA says:

Chairman PIA says that PALPA President is misleading general public.

PIA will operate special flights to transport passengers.

PIA will also make arrangements for transportation of some of its passengers by other airlines.
