Boeing 777 Landing on 36L/18R

Post by aviator773 »

Since there is work being carried out on RWY 36R so at specific times of the day aircraft's use 36L for landing but as everyone knows that 36L only permits aircraft's till A-300 so 777's can't land. But this time even Boeing 777's are allowed to land on 36L be it 777-300 ER or 777-200 LR.
This is something new and definitely requires professionalism since the length of RWY 36L is shorter than 36R and I guess it sure does have some weight limitations too.

Any comments as to like what made the 777 pilots take 36L for landing and takeoff although NOTAM for OPLA says that aircraft's till A300 can use 36L.

I remember PIA Boeing 777-200ER registration AP-BGK as flight PK-758 from London landed on Lahore Airport secondary Runway 36L/18R on December 31, 2014, when airport's primary Runway 36R/18L was not operational due to Shaheen Air Boeing 737-400 (AP-BJN) incident on December 30.

But I think at that time Boeing 777s of gulf airlines like Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways did not use Runway 36L/18R.

Are gulf airlines' B777s using Runway 36L/18R this time?

Yes at that time PIA's 777 pilots were surely using 36L but then that was like a few times. This time if the departure or landing of a flight operated by 777 falls in the time when 36R is closed then the pilots take 36L without any hesitation. I have seen one landing of Sky cargo 777 freighter except for that no other. Usually 36R is operational at times when Gulf airlines are due to land and depart.
I am sure there must be some risk involved in using 36L for a boeing 777 like weight limitation and runway usage for takeoff and all.

I remember PIA DC-10 use to land at this runway when the other runway was not built. I am not sure if it used to be weight restricted.

I am not an expert so you can correct me if I am wrong. Here in Amsterdam we have runway 22 which is 2014 M and is the shortest runway of them all the runway is actually for small aircraft's. But during stormy weather even B777s and 747s are using this runway to land. I guess it has something to do with lower speed?

hello yes I have been flew 747 AP-AYW landed old runway but parked in Runaway because of Taxiway problem due to ATC and Fire station not suitable for 747's big wings. I was 13 years old in December 1982 when RWP Rawalpindi fog but my dad requested me to got off 747 for my home then my late uncle Capt Nasir flew it back to RWP after 2 hours.
