PIA Invites Bids to Acquire Up To Three Wide-Body Aircraft on Dry Lease

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) invites "sealed bids" from interested parties for the dry lease of wide-body twin jet aircraft as below:

Number of Aircraft: Up to three (3)
Seating Configuration: 300 plus seats (2-class)
Lease Period: 6 years
Preferred Delivery Schedule: Till December 2015*
Vintage: 2012 and onwards

*in case required aircraft are not offered till December 2015, PIA may consider aircraft offered for delivery till March 2016.

Bids will be opened on October 6, 2015.

Looks to me PIA is inclining to get Kenyan Airways three B777-300 ER that's why this tender is modified to accept Aircraft of built year of 2012 and onwards and by looking at delivery date it is still same as originally planned of December 2015.

Sounds like PIA is changing it's mind to drop Vietnam deal and to get Kenyan Airways deal, Financial impact could be huge but it is also very reasonable to have almost brand new Kenyan B777-300 ER.

This tender is to procure the kenyan 777s most probably.

Now all we need are A330s or 787s to replace the A310s and to expand the route

I think with six 777s added PIA will probably retain very few A310s if any at all, unless a major expansion of routes takes place.

Thats good news, With 3 new Kenyaian 777-300 and 3 Vietnam Boeing 777-200, PIA should start direct flights to Sydney, Amsterdam,Paris and increase frequency to USA routes. PIA will get good loads on these routes, as lot of Pakistanis live in these cities.

Abbas Bhai what happened to PIA tender of Medium haul aircraft on dry lease. Did PIA got any bid for A330 or 787 Dreamliner ?

^ Seems PIA is going to induct a total of five Boeing 777s i.e. two ex-Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777-200ER and three ex-Kenya Airways Boeing 777-300ER.

Sometime ago, there were reports about induction of five Boeing 777s approved by the current government.

I'm not aware of any A330 or B787 aircraft offered on dry lease to PIA.

PIA has a codeshare on the AMS route with Etihad, I think the same with some USA routes. At the otherhand Non-stop flights from and to Paris might be a good starting point. But in this case PIA must really work hard on their service.

But what I really not hope to see is what happened to AP-BHW a few years ago.

According to Abb Takk news channel, PIA is planning to induct three ex-Kenya Airways Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The news channel showed a PIA document that apparently shows projected contribution by the three Boeing 777-300ERs in the progress of PIA during aircraft's six-year dry lease period.

In this regard, a briefing was given to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for obtaining government approval for procurement of these three aircraft.


With the induction of these three aircraft the total number of Boeing 777 aircraft in PIA fleet will increase to twelve (12), according to PIA sources quoted by the news channel.

Does it mean PIA has dropped plan to induct ex-Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777-200ER aircraft?

Anyway, Boeing 777-300ER appears more suitable to replace Boeing 747-300 recently phased out from PIA fleet.
