PIA ATR fleet status

Post by Sahil Ali »

Let's just keep posting about the status of PIA ATR'S as they are playing a vital role flying the domestic routes for PIA. According to the last information recieved there were two 42's and 5 72's operating. Did the number of operational 42's increase and are all the 72's operational too? Any news on the procurement of engines for the 42's who were waiting for their engines?

Currently 3 x ATR 42s active:
AP-BHH
AP-BHI
AP-BHM

AP-BHO test flight is due this week and it will be operational by end of this week inshaAllah so 4 ATR 42s will be active by end of this month.

AP-BHP awaiting engines (payment done) by mid august hopefully it will be online aswell while AP-BHN needs almost everything from spares to engines so that will take a long time.

And mashaAllah all 5 ATR 72s are active!

Total as of today active ATR 42/72s are Eight (8).

The airframe of ATR42(AP-BHJ) is parked at a side of the airport. The right engine's propeller and landing gears of ATR were broken. For more information, you can see the topic of it's crash landing.

InshAllah! 9 into 8 = 72 first officers required on ATR (Atleast). First officers flying the ATR'S would be around 40 above. That makes alot of room for the cadet pilots. I hope they streamline the training's too.

If we talk about the A320's the requirement is going to be something like this 13 into 8 = 104 first officers required (Atleast) in few months when we add up those 4 Airasia aircraft to our fleet. InshAllah. There are around 30 above first officers flying the 320'S. This is going to create alot of vacuum for the cadet pilots. It already has on the ATR. Cadets from the second last batch are all ready for their sim training. There are going to be alot of promotions to the 320'S from ATR which will ofcourse create vacuum again for the cadets on ATR. The 10th ATR will go operational by next month too. So according to this maths PIA is kinda short of crew right now. All they need to do is streamline the training's. Just plan and execute before there's an acute shortage. U are next then. Let's hope u go for ur technical soon.

Sahil Ali what makes you think the ATR42 needs 8 first officers??

I would imagine the ATR42/72 are doing around 200 hours per month, putting around 50 hours per month per pilot I dont think PIA needs more then four first officers per aircraft or a total of 40-44 for the entire fleet of ten ATR42/72 soon to be operational.

These turbo props dont average more then 2400-2500 hours per year.
