If PIA opted for B747-800 instead if B777-340 ER that could constitute worst decision for Airline, which will haunt PIA very least for 20 years.
Fortune favours brave.

Re: PIA to Retire Boeing 747 after Hajj 2014
Had any such deal confirmed, the news would have broken to the world by now as any order for 747-8I is once in a blue moon nowadays.
I'm sure someone has given you wrong info regarding aircraft type. It must be 77W.
Also, 747s were used on saudi routes only. The long-haul missions are taken over by 777s. While 747-8I is made for long haul flights. It's not good for saudi routes.
The best choice imo is the 206-tonne variant of A330-300 (regional variant) with de-rated engines and optimized cabin for upto 400 seats. Saudi airlines has recently ordered 20 of these. And they can be much cheap to get as well as operate and maintain.
Lower Mtow allows lower landing fees, derated engines will last longer on the wings, price would be low too as its a lower weight variant. Also, airbus is struggling to get enough A330ceo orders required for smooth transitioning to the neo. So things can be really good if PIA can extract a good
deal from airbus. Also, PIA can lease some A330-200s to repace A310s.

PIA is considering A350's and 787's not 747-8I , they would be mad if they take it.

Lufthansa and Air China and Korean Air and Transenco only four airlines in B748 but A380 more different airlines than B748 but 773ER are very popular in many airlines
Good luck to PIA get 748 or A380 or 787-1000 or 777X inshallah

The A380 did not really turn out well. Only for airlines like EK. I have the same feeling for the 748. Times have changed and aircrafts like the 787 or A350 can be ideal for PIA but financial resources are not available. its about filling that plane.

PIA has a very ripe gossip grapevine and alot of false 'rumours' and news is spread around solely to create excitement and unless credible sources confirm anything (and there are some on this forum) just keep entertaining yourselves.
