PIA Jet Flights Between Lahore and Islamabad

Post by Abbas Ali »

After restoring jet service between Islamabad and Skardu, does PIA also have plan to restart domestic jet flights between Lahore and Islamabad with Airbus A320?

In the past, PIA Boeing 737-300 regularly performed some of domestic flights between Lahore and Islamabad.

Luckily they have already started Flights from Lahore to Islamabad and Islamabad to Lahore with 320 and the flights that were previously operated by an ATR 42 are now being operated with 320 except for one or two days on which ATR still continues. I recently traveled on PK 654 ISB-LHE. It was AP-BLW.

Why add extra cycles to the A320, the short trip between Lahore and Islamabad should be upgraded to the ATR72 and leave the A320s for a domestic trunk routes, Middle East, UAE, South Asia, Middle East, revive Bangkok with them.

Well said. On such short trips, the jet aircrafts cannot even achieve their optimal cruising altitude. They merely cruise at about 5000 metres for 10-15 minutes. That's a joke. :very_mad: Atr 72 is the best choice. A320s should be operated on routes atleast 600nm. Plus A320s should be converted to all-eco. They are flying 320 with 150 economy pax with empty bussiness class seats most of the times. I'm telling you the per seat cost of PIA A320s is worse than Shaheen 737s. Removing 30 economy seats just for the parliamentarians is a huge loss to revenue (almost 17%). PIA did'nt utilized its 777s well. Now they are doing same with the 320s. The 15-17% fuel efficiency advantage gained by switching from 737 classics to A320s is wasted due to in-efficient use of cabin floor. Very sad.

Genx you've rightly said everything. PK 654 had a load of 68 and this could have easily been uplifted by ATR 72. 320's flight time from ISB-LHE is exactly 30 minutes in which it literally only cruised for like 7-10 minutes so operating a 320 on this route is something I am unable to figure out. ATR pilots literally don't have any flights to fly because the routes which were being flown by ATR'S are now being flown by 320.
As for the loss thing I guess they can afford to bear with this loss but can't afford to provide relief to its employees on sub-lo tickets. Pure discrimination.
