Experienced on my dxb-isb on 8 jul. After back tracking rwy 30, the aircraft turned right on twy A, stopped and switched off the engines. The capt then came on PA to announce that 'as per new procedure we will be towed to our parking position, please remain seated'. After a tug was attached, the aircraft crawled at an agonizing slow speed to bay.
Can anyone shed some light?

Was it a PIA flight?
Probably some sort of jet fuel saving measure?

I am flying to Islamabad very regularly; the last time was yesterday. There is no NOTAM regarding any new taxi in procedure.

Thanks foxbat,
I am flying a narrow body, nonetheless, I shouldn't have missed the NOTAM.

Re: New Taxi In procedure at ISB airport
narrow body aircraft are exempted from this particular NOTAM as the tow procedure is for wide body aircraft

Re: New Taxi In procedure at ISB airport
Couls see the things clearly this morning on my return flight. Twy ALPHA is being resurfaced and I could see fresh layer of asphalt at ALPHA-BRAVO junction. An airblue 320 and shaheen 737 departed via BRAVO under oen power whereas the EK 777 was towed con ALPHA till abeam Bahria apron for engine start.
Most probably for security reasons, but sad to see the dense trees cleared north of rwy 30.

Re: New Taxi In procedure at ISB airport
Do they shut down engines to prevent them from ingesting objects from freshly recarpeted taxiway or to prevent engine thrust from damaging freshly recarpeted taxiway?
Or is there some other reason for shutting down engines?

Re: New Taxi In procedure at ISB airport
I think this is an old procedure dating back some years. I think it is to avoid objects flying around from jet blast.

It is a narrow strip of tarmac slighlty wider than the B777 wheel track which has been laid afresh. I think its for both purposes, i.e to avoid FOD as well as surface erosion by jet blast.
Iqbal. As per NOTAM above, its a temporary procedure not a standard one.
