Re: PIA Crash Landing at Lahore: Express Tribune
According to some comments on the article, it wasn't really a crash landing. The aircraft slipped off the runway under heavy rain. Maybe some one can confirm this

Looks like a runway overrun by an ATR.

Oh god - I took the ISB-LHE flight on Tuesday on my way back to London. The aircraft then was changed to 737 (AP-BFT) due to load. There has been alot of rain and thunderstorm in northern Pakistan in the last few days. My trip photos will soon appear in the photos forum.

Re: PIA Crash Landing at Lahore: Express Tribune
Looks like ATR 42-500 skidded off runway during landing in wet weather.
Probably was landing on Runway 36R. Runway is closed for flight operations. Removal of aircraft may take 4 to 5 hours.

NOTAM for the closed runway 36R. Is 36L used frequently at lahore ? Maybe for military activity.

Runway 36L/18R is being used for smaller aircraft operations probably upto Airbus A310-300 aircraft type weight category.
Operations of heavy jets like Boeing 747 is suspended due to Runway 36R/18L blocked by the ATR.
The ATR involved in this incident was operating flight PK-653 from Islamabad to Lahore.

Seems like the right wing might have suffered repairable damage. Everything else seems fine.
Would be traveling ISB-LHE soon to join my new employer as they have booked seats for us on that flight. Would be interesting to hear about the views of other colleagues joining with me as we think ISB-LHE travel by air should not have been the option and road travel would have sufficed.

Not that simple. Right MLG has collpased too. May be the No 2 engine props have also contacted the ground.faisal-777 wrote:Seems like the right wing might have suffered repairable damage. Everything else seems fine.
On a separate note, you need a lot of effort to drive an ATR out of runway.
