Post by Abbas Ali »

According to a report in May 15 edition of English daily Pakistan Today, Tajikistan's national airline Tajik Air (tajikair.tj) will start twice-a-week service between Dushanbe and Islamabad from the month of June.

Later the airline will also add Karachi and Lahore in its route network.

Probably Boeing 737-300 or Boeing 737-500 will be used by Tajik Air for Islamabad flights.

PIA will also operate Islamabad-Dushanbe flights, PIA flights launch date/schedule will be announced later, according to info on following link:

Following photos sent by Umair Khalid (forum member Umair) were taken in June 2011, when PIA Boeing 737-340 (AP-BCD) was chartered to fly a Pakistani Chamber of Commerce delegation to Dushanbe from Islamabad. Flight duration was 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I remember last time Tajik PM met our PM he had expressed his interest in direct flights between Tajikistan and Pakistan. Probably this start up is a part of that verbal agreement. Nevertheless a very good thing for both countries. How's the load between ISB and Dushanbe ? Or how big is Pakistani community over there ?

PIA initially plans to use a twice weekly ATR service into Dushanbe from Islamabad. Unofficial sources say that Skardu Airport could be given international status & there could be a twice weekly service into Dushanbe from Islamabad via Skardu.

According to information on official website of Tajik Air (http://www.tajikair.tj/info/news/58/), in the month of June Tajik Air will start twice-a-week service between Dushanbe and Islamabad on every Wednesday and Saturday. Wednesday flight will depart from Dushanbe at 11:00PM and Saturday flight will depart from Dushanbe at 11:55PM. It means the two flights from Dushanbe will arrive in Islamabad in early hours of Thursday and Sunday.

Flight duration will be 2 hours and 30 minutes, probably it's turboprop flight duration? If yes, then I think Antonov An-24 will be used by Tajik Air for flights between Dushanbe and Islamabad.

Tajik Air also intends to resume flights for Karachi. Flights to/from Karachi were suspended by Tajik Air in 2001 when situation went bad in Afghanistan (Tajik Air aircraft flew through Afghan air space for flights to/from Karachi), according to information on airline's official website.

Following photo taken by Umar Anis shows Tajikistan Airlines Tupolev Tu-154M (registration EY-85469) at Karachi Airport on December 21, 1993. Tajikistan Airlines has been re-branded as Tajik Air.

Uzbekistan Airways are already doing some good business on their Tashkent-Lahore-Tashkent route. They have a 70-75% seat factor on this route. Apparently Uzbekistan Airways are offering cheap airfares to London, Frankfurt, Moscow, Istanbul & other Central Asian Republic destinations from Lahore. As of December last year they have upgraded their equipment operating to Lahore. Previously they used an Avro RJ85 to LHE, however since December 2011 Airbus A320 is used for their four weekly flight schedule to Lahore.

You're welcome Umair and thank you for sharing info about PIA Dushanbe flights.

Tajik Air Dushanbe-Islamabad-Dushanbe flights schedule is now available on airline's official website www.tajikair.tj. Flights will be operated with turboprop aircraft.

It seems Tajik Air Dushanbe-Islamabad-Dushanbe flights will be launched on June 3, 2012. Flights from Dushanbe to Islamabad will be operated on every Wednesday and Sunday. Flights from Islamabad to Dushanbe will be operated on every Thursday and Monday.

Flights schedule indicate Tajik Air will use 56-seater Chinese-built Xian MA60 (Modern Ark 60) or Xian Yunshuji Y-7 turboprop aircraft for Dushanbe-Islamabad-Dushanbe flights. Xian MA60 is stretched version of Xian Yunshuji Y-7 which is Chinese built version of Antonov An-24.

Here's photo of Tajik Air MA60 (registration EY-201). It's first of two brand new MA60 turboprop aircraft ordered by Tajik Air. The first MA60 (registration EY-201) was delivered to Tajik Air in December 2011. Delivery of second brand new MA60 is expected this year.

Most likely inaugural flight will be operated by Tajik Air MA60 registration EY-201.
