PIA,s pilot induction is a culture behind the iron curtin. PIA as a mojor airline till today has not been able to construct a thorough method of testing and determining the eligiblity of pilot, if he /she is fit for the job. The method which PIA adopts for selection is nothing more than a joke. Any serious airline hiring manager, if comes to know the PIA testing method he will brust into laughter.
PIA creats a useless drama called PIA Flight Check, asking the DFO , other, the captian who conduct,s the ride a question , How do you they believe that by going through that bo bo bloney ride a cadet is fit to handle a high performance twin turbo prop or a jet. This is the method used for years because thats how these Captians were tested and thats the level od aeronautical knowledge they possess when they were inducted.
The only time was after 1995/1996 hiring when after the sim and aircraf training, there performence of those cadets of that batch PIA made it to the public in the paper media for several days by disclosing the names of pilots there training time there performance and recommended to terminate them from PIA but did not do so , those guys are now flying on international routes. not only the name of those guys , they gave out names of previous batch guys who were not fit for the job.
Then and now they all come with same low level of aeronautical knowledge and what wonder,s that how a guy who have never tested on a retractabe gear trainer goes to a 30 million dollar simulator and comes out so successsful.
Im sorry i completely disagree with you.
I dont think anyone is born with a twin turbo prop or jet rating.
This is a 'Cadet Pilot Program' where PIA inducts CPL/IR holders and trains them to fly jets on their own expense with a 5 year bond.
There is no such thing as 'low level aeronautical knowledge'. All cadets must pass the basic/technical ground school (which is quiet tough and thorough) in order to move on to the simulator training.
Regarding flight checks, obviously a guy with a CPL/IR has only flown a single engined certified trainer therefore it is only fair to conduct a flight check on the a/c the guy has flown.
There is a reason why PIA pilots have a reputation to be one of the best in the world.
