How Many Grounded Planes At KHI?

Post by newflyer »

If anyone can tell me the total number of grounded planes at KHI as well as the operator names? Aero Asia planes are biting dust there as well and for how many years? Thanks!

Permanently grounded aircraft at Karachi Airport include:

1 x Kazakhstan Airlines Tupolev Tu-154B-2 (registration UN-85455)
2 x PIA Boeing 747-240B Combi (AP-BAK & AP-BAT)
3 x Aero Asia Rombac 1-11-561RC (AP-BFD, AP-BFE, AP-BFF)
&
Two or three Shaheen Air Boeing 737-200 aircraft (probably AP-BJH and/or AP-BJI).

I think Aero Asia aircraft are stored at Karachi Airport since year 2002.

Thanks. So a total of 16 aircraft currently grounded. Any idea what Aero Asia is doing with their aircraft? And what about Shaheen planes? Will they follow the fate of Aero Asia?

I think Aero Asia aircraft remain parked there due to some legal issues like outstanding parking charges or maybe some other charges due to be paid by Aero Asia to CAA. Other reason could be that aircraft owner from Romania (in case they are not owned by Aero Asia) did not ferry them to Romania.

Btw, through a notice in April 4, 2011 newspaper, Pakistan CAA issued notice for the disposal of these three Bucuresti Rombac 1-11-561RC One-Eleven (AP-BFD, AP-BFE & AP-BFF) of Aero Asia parked at Karachi Airport.

I guess CAA will recover outstanding dues from Aero Asia by selling these three aircraft to scrap dealers.

None of them are permanently grounded. AP-BCA & AP-BGK are undergoing D-Check. A310's are awaiting spare parts, both AP-BGN & AP-BEC have been under maintenance since November 2011.

Thanks. The aircraft are still parked there and the CAA has not sold them yet. They better hurry.
