Hold baggage security check at MAN

Post by rayyanullah »

Is there any truth in the news that all PK flights going to the USA will have to get hold baggage and holds checked prior to leaving for the US. If this is true then we can say Goodbye to the Manchester-New York sector because this exercise will take hours and hours.

Yes I have heard the MAN station manager is very concerned, because it can take upto 6 hours for the baggage clearance!

Another unreasonable mandate of the US DHS?
OTOH, if they could be assured that baggage security met their expectations at the flight's point of origin, this would be a moot point.

I use to handle Aer Lingus here at JFK. I beleive that pre-border clearance is available ex SNN. In this case i use to see them bypass immigration if I remember correctly.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance
In 1986 a United States border preclearance facility was opened at Shannon, eliminating the need to go through immigration on arrival in the United States. In November 2008, it was announced that customs and agriculture inspections would be added, making Shannon the first airport in Europe to offer this service. This is expected to be a big incentive to attract airlines and corporate jets to Shannon. Shannon Airport spent €21 million on the facilities.[15] To have these facilities put in place a two story, 7,000 square metre extension to the main terminal building has been constructed. The facility opened the morning of 5 August 2009. The passengers on Continental Airlines flight CO25 from Shannon to Newark were first to use the facilities which give Shannon a unique status.
On March 1, 2010, Shannon Airport became the first airport outside the U.S. to offer U.S. Customs and Border Protection to private aircraft. The US Customs and Border Protection facility that opened at Dublin Airport in January 2011 is used for commercial aircraft only.
British Airways operates a twice-daily business class only flight from London City Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York with a stopover in Shannon. This allows them to take off from the short runway of City airport which is located in the London Docklands area, stop for fuel in Shannon while passengers go through pre-clearance and arrive without the need to go through immigration or customs.

Heard the same from Capt of 777 who operated a Flight 2 days back... This would be a Blow to PIA once again...... But now it is better to Open Shannon Again, Low Airport Charges Compared to MAN, but concern is that about the Passenger Flying to MAN, PIA can always start Direct flight From OPKC to MAN to cater to the Passenger Needs & JFK PAX can go with a Technical Stop at SNN....

April 4 -According to Geo News, after April 22, under USA's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rule/regulation, passengers, baggage, cargo and aircraft of PIA flights to USA will undergo extra checking/screening process at Manchester Airport.

Presently, PIA flights to USA resume their journey after staying for about 1 hour and 50 minutes at Manchester Airport.

After the imposition of this new rule, due to extra checking/screening process, US-bound PIA flights aircraft and passengers will have to stay for 6 to 7 hours at Manchester Airport.

PIA will also have to bear extra charges like airport lounge charges, aircraft parking charges for longer duration, baggage and cargo screening charges, arrangement of meals/refrehments for passengers at Manchester Airport etc.

This new rule/regulation may also affect PIA flights schedule.

Due to this longer checking/screening process PIA may loose its US-bound passengers to other airlines.

Currently, PIA is operating three flights to New York and all these three flights are via Manchester Airport.

Here's Geo News report.

So much for licking the back side of Americans. What's next, ban PIA altogether?
The orbital speed of the Earth around the Sun averages about 30 km/s or 18 mps (108,000 km/h or 67000 mph).
Which means we're travelling 97 times the speed of sound. And yet we can't feel the motion,

In response to this, and to protest this unjust move, PIA should cease this loss making 3X route and start connecting 3x Daily TK flights. So basically the scenario will be PIA metal fly from KHI,LHE,ISB and PEW to IST and onward connected by THY.
Fortune favours brave.

That might be difficult considering PIA only have 2 777LRs in their fleet, which are currently also used on routes other then YYZ.
