Abdullah Gul for joint defence production projects between Pak- Turkey
ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Wednesday stressed the need to initiate joint defence production projects between Paksitan and Turkey. He expressed these views in a meeting with a Pakistani defence delegation, led by Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar who called on him, says a fax message received from Ankara.

Mr. Gul said the existing strategic partnership between Paksitan and Turkey provides an opportunity for joint ventures. He showed keen interest in Paksitan’s JF-17 Thunder aircraft, which he was told, is a multi-role combat aircraft equipped with state of the art modern technology and is manufactured according to present day defence requirements.
Referring to the unprecedented economic growth that Turkey has been achieving over the last couple of years, the Turkish President said “We want the same type of economic development in Pakistan also and are prepared to help our brotherly country in every possible manner.”
“I am personally motivating Turkish investors to invest in Pakistan’s energy sector,” said Gul.
Pakistan’s coal reserves are third largest in the world and production of electricity from coal would be a viable project for overseas investors, he maintained.
The Turkish President also desired to expedite work on the US$20 billion railway project that will connect Pakistan with European market through Turkey.
Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar thanked the Turkish President for personally monitoring Turkish investors’ projects in Pakistan.
He appreciated the level of hospitality extended to his delegation and hoped that the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey shall be further enhanced in every field.
Turkish Minister for National Defence Mr. Veedi Gonul and Paksitan’s Ambassador to Turkey Tariq Azizuddin were also present in the meeting.

So, looks like this JF-17 program will expand and attract a lot of export customers and hopefully Turkey will be its first customer. I'm really looking forward for Pak-China joint venture to expand in the near future.

This is indeed great news, i wish all the best to both countries and would love to see JF-17 being exported sooner then later. May Turkish order be the first export order for Pakistan in this joint venture with China....

There's a mistake in list of aircraft taking part at Farnborough International Air Show 2010 on air show's official website www.farnborough.com. The list shows two JF-17 Thunder aircraft representing CATIC = China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation.

In reality, JF-17 is jointly developed/manufactured by CATIC and PAC i.e. Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.

The list of aircraft including two JF-17 taking part in Farnborough International Air Show 2010 July 19-25 can be viewed on following link of air show's official website:

Link: Farnborough International Airshow 2010 - Static Aircraft Listings

So, the list on airshow's official website should have shown CATIC and PAC as joint developer/manufacturer of the aircraft.

Following photo in today's (July 20) newspaper shows logos of both CATIC and PAC displayed together at their joint booth/stand at Farnborough International Air Show 2010.

First time saw good and detailed photos of JF-17, thanks to Farnborough air show, otherwise such close ups were never seen before. Purel on cosmetics, the JF-17 doesnot look very good on ground. One its to low and two the tail is a bit lower (as in F-6) not giving a very good look. In the air it looks beautiful.
Btw its very rare to see the nose gear retracting aft. Usually these retract forwards, that also helps in gravity lowering in emergency as its against the airflow. Anyway some serios design considerations must have gone into this.

^ I think JF-17 should have been displayed with full armament, it will make the aircraft more presentable. One aircraft with fully loaded with arms and one aircraft without. It will sure help in attracting customers.

According to various news reports:

* The two JF-17 Thunder aircraft have been flown to Farnborough by Wing Commander Khalid and Squadron Leader Azkaar.

* The two JF-17 Thunder aircraft (serial# 10-113 and 10-114) on display at Farnborough were assembled in Pakistan.

* The JF-17 will be produced in blocks of 50 aircraft each where every succeeding block would be an upgraded version of the previous block.

PAF terms production of JF-17 Thunder success story

FARNBOROUGH (July 21 2010):
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has termed the development and production of JF-17 Thunder warplanes in co-operation with China as 'success story' and said the two countries will continue their mutual co-operation in the aviation field.

The Air Chief was speaking on the occasion of the biennial Farnborough International Air Show 2010, which opened in south west England on Monday where two PAF JF-17 Thunder fighter planes are on static display along with other latest military and civilians aircraft from around the globe. The two aircraft have been co-developed and co-produced by Pakistan Air Force and China Aviation Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC).

PAF delegation is headed by Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Arif. The two aircraft have been flown to the UK by Wing Commander Khalid and Sqn Ldr. Leader Azkaar. The Chief of Air Staff is currently visiting UK on the invitation of Royal Air Force. The Air Chief held meetings with the President CATIC Li Yu Hai and Vice President Aviation Industry of China (AVIC) Li Yu Hai and visited joint Stall set-up by CATIC and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra, and signed the visitors book.

This is the first time that JF-17 Thunder aircraft has been put on display at any international air show by the PAF. The Pakistan Air Force officially inducted its first JF-17 squadron on February 18 this year. The aircraft will eventually replace its present fleet of F-7, A-5 and Mirage planes. The Air Force has already announced that it has a confirmed order for 150 JF-17's which may increase of 250 aircraft.

JF-17 Thunder aircraft is an advanced multi-role light combat aircraft jointly developed by Chengdu and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex under a strategic collaboration project. The aircraft is designed to be cost-effective and can meet the tactical and strategic needs of the Pakistan Air Force, and various other air forces.

The production facilities have been set-up for the aircraft in Pakistan. The first batch of 50 JF-17 Thunder aircrafts will be equipped with the Chinese/Pakistani avionics and missiles, while the later aircrafts are to be equipped with more advanced radars and missiles. Last month, latest versions of three F-16's aircraft were inducted into PAF. These were of 18 Block 52 C/D ordered by PAF from the United States.

The JF-17 Thunder is all weather, multi-role, light combat aircraft. Its design is based on modern concepts of aerodynamics and is equipped with hybrid fly-by-wire flight control system. The aircraft has a full glass cockpit, excellent man-machine interface and modern self-protection suite, which gives it a good combat potential and ensures its survivability in high threat combat environments.

The aircraft is equipped with fourth generation avionics systems, wide range of conventional/smart weapons. Beyond Visual Range and short range air-to-air missiles, and air-to-surface missiles, the aircraft also has a remarkably short take-off/landing distance that gives it the flexibility to operate from short airfields.

Shortly, the aircraft will also have the air-to-air refuelling capability, which will further enhance its combat potential and employment options. First proto type of the JF-17 aircraft flew in September 2003. After flight testing, a small batch of eight aircraft was produced in year 2007 and finally serial production of the aircraft started in Pakistan last year and so far 16 aircraft have been produced.

The JF-17 aircraft will be produced in blocks of 50 aircraft each where every succeeding block would be an upgraded version of the preceding block. Pakistan's share in co-production of the airframe of JF-17 aircraft would be more than 50 per cent.

Salaam Moin, I just got home from there. I went to see my brother who lives near to the airfield.

On my way I read on the M25 that the air show is from 19th to 25th July. So I am sure you'd get the opportunity of viewing them twins flying.. So looking forward to see some quality photos, as you always come up with some great angles :)

Btw, is it possible for someone to create another thread in the photo section and repost all the photos there (from this thread)? This way we'd have all the photos in one thread and discussion in the other..
The orbital speed of the Earth around the Sun averages about 30 km/s or 18 mps (108,000 km/h or 67000 mph).
Which means we're travelling 97 times the speed of sound. And yet we can't feel the motion,
SubhanAllah

PAF Chief says no problems in acquiring engines for JF-17 aircraft

FARNBOROUGH, July 21 (APP)
- Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has rubbished claims that production of JF-17 Thunder warplanes has been hit by problems relating to procurement of Russian engines and said the manufacturing of the fighter planes in joint collaboration with China was proceeding smoothly. The Air Chief was speaking to media on the occasion of his visit to Farnborough International Air Show where two PAF JF-17 aircraft are on static display.

“There are no problems whatsoever regarding the supply of engines for these aircraft contrary what has been appearing in the international media,” he asserted.

The Air Chief who visited the site where two PAF planes are on display and met the pilots and the ground staff, said he has been encouraged by the positive response of friendly countries who have shown interest in the aircraft.

He said both Pakistan and China have evolved a joint strategy to sell these planes to the interested countries.

The President of China Aviation Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC), Li Yu Hai who was also present on the occasion categorically stated that they have received no information from Russia on suspending the further supply of 100 RD-93 engines.

The Pakistani Air Force chief added that China has also manufactured engines for this aircraft which are currently under testing and trials.

“We have to see how far these engines are successfully and then possibly induct them into JF-17”.

He said Pakistan was looking to manufacture around 250 of these aircraft to replacing its present fleet of A-5s, FP-7 and Mirages.

According to Jane’s Defence Weekly, Egypt has launched negotiations with Pakistan in relation to licensed production of these single engine multimode fighter aircraft.

According to the magazine, the Russian defence manufacturers are facing strong competition from China vis-à-vis their MIG-29s which carry a price tag of US $ 35 million as compared to 10 million dollars for FC-1 fighters.

The magazine said MIG-29s are currently competing with FC-1s in an Egyptian tender on the delivery of 32 fighters while the Middle East country is also negotiating with Pakistan.

The Russian Federal Service for Military Technical Co-operation approved re-export of RD-93 engines to Egypt as part of the FC-1 fighter package in November 2007.

While the PAF chief was visiting static display of JF-17, overhead an array of latest Western fighter planes including the state-of-the-art F-22 Raptor, F-16, F-18, Euro fighter Typhoon, British-made Hawke trainer thrilled the crowd with their aeronautical characteristics during the flying display.

Pakistan plans to fly the JF-17 planes at the next 2012 show. In the meantime, these planes will also participate in the Singapore International Air Show next year.

The Commander of the Saudi Arabian Dhahran Airbase also visited the site and evinced keen interest in JF-17. As he sat in the cockpit he was explained about its various features by wing commander Khalid who flew one of the planes from Pakistan. The PAF Chief also sat in the cockpit. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Arif. Project, Director, of JF-17 was also present on the occasion.

Both Pakistan and China have set up a joint stall at the main exhibition hall and has been receiving numerous enquiries regarding the aircraft which has put on display for the first time at an international air show.

The Pakistan Air Force officially inducted its first JF-17 squadron on February 18 this year.

The JF-17 aircraft will be produced in blocks of 50 aircraft each where every succeeding block would be an upgraded version of the preceding block. Pakistan ’s share in co-production of the airframe of JF-17 aircraft would be more than 50%. Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra, has the capacity to roll-out 15-25 aircraft per year.
