In today's (March 11) newspaper:

Expression of Interest (EoI) for pre-qualification of contractors

Expansion of passengers terminal building at Allama Iqbal International Air Port (AIIAP) - Lahore on Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC)/Turnkey basis

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has planned to undertake major expansion of the existing passenger terminal building at Allama Iqbal International Air Port (AIIAP), Lahore, to enhance its annual passenger handling capacity from 6.5 million to around 20 million with world class facilities to cater for the requirements for next 15 to 20 years.

CAA invites applications from both local and international firms for pre-qualification as contractors for undertaking the subject works on Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) basis. All firms must have relevant past experience of having undertaken projects of similar nature. Firms which do not have in-house design capability will be required to form a consortium with architectural & engineering consultancy firm(s) with relevant experience of airport terminal building projects.

The scope of works includes site surveys and investigations, design, construction, equipment supply installation, testing and commissioning of the terminal building expansion as well as all associated apron/airside and landside infrastructure works.

The applicants must keep under consideration that the proposed work is required to be executed in restricted and operational area of the airport with utmost care and quality (international standards), without disturbing flight operations and passengers movement.

I thought exactly the same when reading the EoI - handling more then 3 times more than current numbers of passengers needs a great expansion project and not only a few more gates and check in counters.

Anyhow I also agree that they should make the Airport A380 capable at least one Gate should be able to handle the A380 while new Ground Vehicles are required and taxiways, etc have to be upgraded as well.
Iam quite sure that EK would bring their A380 for at least one of the 2 Flights to LHE.
Best Regards / Wa´alaikumusalam

I think they'll also have to expand car park or build multi-storey car park.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the expansion project of the Lahore airport, ARY News reported.

The Allama Iqbal International Airport which was originally known as the as Lahore International Airport is the second largest airport in the country and serves a large number of travelers from across the Punjab province.

The expansion will increase the number of international flights and the number of passengers at the airport. In order to cater to them he size of the building will also be increased.

The tentative new design of the airport is said to have been inspired from the national flower Jasmine.

According to sources, the contract for the construction has been handed over to the private Spanish firm Tepsa International.

The firm has reportedly asked for two and half years for the completion of the project. It has previously work on the construction of the airport in the Spanish capital Madrid and on the spectacularly looking airport in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo.

After the completion of the project, the number of aero planes could be parked at the main terminal will be increased to 22 while currently only seven planes can be parked in the hangar of the airport.

The current building of the airport will not be demolished but there will be expansion in the northern, southern and eastern sides of the airport. The expansion cannot take in the western side due to the runway.

The current parking area will be removed and arrival and departure lounges will be constructed over there. The round park situated near the airport will be used as the new parking area.
