It was pressurization failure...... Which happened on the A-310 while on a flight from peshawer to dubai.

A310 has a long history of pressurization failure

PIA also uses 737s for flights to Dubai from Faisalabad (LYP) and Multan (MUX).

WHAT IS PRESSURISATION??

Post by speedbird london »

Pressurisation, is where the cabin, is pressurised to rughly 8000-10000ft. As you may know the pressure and oxygen decreases with height, or what we call 'altitude' in the industry. So if you were to fly at say, 30000ft, you will not be able to sustain life. As there is no oxygen to breathe in the atmosphere, as well as the pressure acting on it.

So, hence why we fill the cabin with lots off air, and pump it in, like a soda can, shaking it, if you open, well you can imagine the results.
So the way pressurisation is controlled in aircraft is pump it in constantly, but release it at a controlled rate, thus maintaining about the pressure of at 10000ft.

Pressurisation, can fail, if a window fails, a door seal leaks, or the control of the 'outflow' valve, (which controls at which rate air leaves the cabin)fails.
You can fly below 10000ft, but its not viable, smply for fuel reasons, and terrain.
In the old days, when 'smoking' was allowed, it was easy to tell where the cabin was leaking, as you could see nicotine marks on the outside of the fusleage.

hope that answers your question.
