You have posted this message on 3 threads (related to expansion works at Quetta, Faisalabad and Peshawar) but neither gave the link or scan of the news item? :-k
That information can be found in an article in a special supplement about 34th anniversary of Pakistan CAA carried by a number of Pakistani Urdu and English dailies on December 7.

Senate Panel Calls for Improving Facilities at Peshawar Airport

Post by Abbas Ali » Thu May 11, 2017 2:37 pm

By APP Published: May 11, 2017

ISLAMABAD:
Senate Special Committee on Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) Peshawar on Wednesday directed aviation authorities concerned to devise a proper plan to reduce the hardships of passengers.

The committee which met at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Mohsin Aziz noted that there were serious problems at Peshawar airport that should be resolved on a priority basis to facilitate the passengers.

Aziz said that BKIA was not properly planned thus causing inconvenience to the passengers.

Senator Attaur Rehman said that flights should be restored to other airports of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa too, including Dera Ismail Khan.

Earlier, the senior officials of aviation division briefed the committee about the progress on roads leading to BKIA.

They said that airport management has approached the Peshawar DC for the acquisition of land for four-lane entry road to the airport.

The officials further said that the permission to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road will be conveyed to the provincial government to ease traffic plying to the airport.

Senator Farhatullah Babar noted that some roads leading to Peshawar airport had been closed on account of security threats. He said at least Bahadur Yar Jang Road should be opened as an alternative route.

Senator Shibli Faraz called for opening Khyber Road to approach the airport.

Aviation Division officials informed the committee immigration counters have been increased in the international lounge to facilitate the passengers.

They further informed that the conceptual proposal for multi-car parking has been submitted by the NESPAK, adding that the proposal was under evaluation.

The committee was also informed that advisor to PM had ordered an immediate in-house study for selection of a new site for the airport, adding that concurrently a foreign consultant was being hired through advertisement.

However, Senator Faraz said, if the government was planning a new airport in Peshawar than it should not spend billions of rupees on BKIA.

Members of the committee senators Muhammad Javed Abbasi, Nisar Muhammad, Ahmed Hassan, Khanzada Khan, John Kenneth Williams, Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash, Ilyas Bilour, Rubina Khalid and Advisor to PM on Aviation attended the meeting.

According to PTV News, during senate committee meeting today it was stated that two acres land has been by provided by Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Tender/bids invitation process for the construction of four-lane entry and two-lane exit for Peshawar Airport will be initiated soon.

I think because the completion of new Peshawar Airport at a new site will take some/several years so that's why till that time authorities want facilities at existing Peshawar Airport to be improved for the convenience of passengers.

Senators want additional roads for Bacha Khan airport

ISLAMABAD:
Senate panel on the Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar (BKIAP) on Wednesday recommended that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government build two additional roads linking the airport.

The Special Committee on Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar (BKIAP) met at the Parliament House on Wednesday with Senator Mohsin Aziz in the chair.

The committee was briefed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on the progress made in implementing recommendations made by the committee during its May 10 meeting.

The committee discussed in detail expansion of the approach road for BKIAP.

Senator Aziz directed the CAA that plans for a four-lane incoming road and a two-lane outgoing road should be finalised as soon as possible.

A representative of the defence ministry was nominated as the focal person for dealing with all correspondence related to the land allotment for the road.

The committee, after deliberating on the issue, recommended that a letter shall be written to the K-P government.

The committee also recommended that Khyber Road or Bahadur Yar Jang road should also be cleared for access to the airport in order to ease travel for passengers. The committee also recommended that the CAA initiate a tendering process whereby the two acres of land which had been by the Pakistan Air Force are utilised.

Moreover, the committee was also briefed upon the current conditions of Bacha Khan Airport and as per committee’s recommendation, counters of custom and immigration have been increased.

Senior officials of CAA told the committee that a new car parking would be constructed with a capacity of 1,500 vehicles at BKIAP.

PAF declines to open blocked roads to Peshawar airport

Jamal Shahid

ISLAMABAD:
Citing security concerns, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday declined to allow access to the Bacha Khan Airport Peshawar through Khyber and Bahadur Yar Jang roads despite a parliamentary committee’s request to open the two approaches to ease travel.

“The matter has been discussed with all security agencies and it has been decided that it is still not safe to allow general public access to these two approaches to the airport. We will urge members not to negate vulnerabilities of the armed forces,” Air Marshal Moeed Khan told a Senate special committee constituted to examine the dilapidated conditions of the airport.

Bahadur Yar Road provides direct access to the Northern Air Command, officers’ mess and residences of officers, said the air marshal. “Opening these roads is still not an option. Security risks are simply too high which we will like the committee members to take into consideration.”

Nonetheless, the committee recommended that one of the two roads be opened to give direct access to the airport and bring relief to the residents of Peshawar.

Senate special committee wants opening of either Khyber Road or Bahadur Yar Jang Road to ease traffic to Bacha Khan Airport

“We do not agree with the continued blockade of these main approaches to the airport. We have been using Khyber Road as far back as we can remember. The armed forces should make other necessary security arrangements and open one of these two roads,” said ANP Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour.

PTI and PML-N senators Nauman Wazir Khattak and Nisar Mohammad also said either of the two roads should be opened.

Air Marshal Khan told the committee that the two approaches were manned one-third by the PAF personnel and two-third by the army. He said the proposed expansion of the two-lane road into six lanes would solve the problem of traffic congestion towards the airport.

“Traffic flow will be regulated once the road widening project is completed,” said the air marshal.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General retired Air Marshal Asim Suleiman said the expansion of the road towards the airport would begin as soon as land was made available by the PAF and the army.

The meeting also discussed the construction of a planned multi-storied parking space for 900 plus cars at the Bacha Khan Airport.

“This special committee has been formed to find solutions to the major congestion problems at the Bacha Khan Airport. This committee directs Ministry of Defence to assist CAA that the project is executed without delays,” said chairman of the committee, Senator Mohsin Aziz of the PTI.
